Earning college credit in HS

East Clinton students now can obtain college credit for Southern State Community College (SSCC) when they take the East Clinton High School chemistry course.
East Clinton High School Principal Mike Edwards told the school board Tuesday night an articulation agreement has been worked out between SSCC and East Clinton. He said he hopes additional courses at the high school can qualify for college credit at Southern State.
In other activity at the board of education meeting, the board approved the special education model policies and procedures for the 2009-10 school year.
An executive session was held to discuss personnel as well as contract negotiations with the teachers union.
Sabina Elementary School Principal Terri Barton, on the eve of the first day of school, said she expected the kindergarten class in the building to include about 69 students, with a total student body count of about 370 in the building.
Approved for supplemental employment for the new school year were the following certified staff. Mistie Manicho will be the team leader for the sixth grade, Laura Lynch will be team leader for the seventh grade and Penny Kincaid will be team leader for the eighth grade.
Terri Stauffer was approved for a supplemental spot in special education. Manicho and Howard Arthur were hired to lead the Power of the Pen program, Andrew Ramsay will assist with student council and Kincaid will be involved with Math Counts.
Kincaid also will help with the BETA Club honor society.
Hired as building technology coordinators were Jason Basford, Chris Campbell, Sally Orihood and Jaysha Milburn.
